OEM Auto Cabin Filters

Your cabin air filter is a specialized piece of protective equipment, and an important component in your vehicle's heating and cooling system. What it is simple to explain. It's a specialized air filter that's designed to protect your passenger space from harmful contaminants and allergens. That keeps the air you breathe fresh, no matter what the weather is like outside.

How Cabin Filters Work

Much like your engine air filter, fuel filter, and oil filter, the cabin filter has fibers that capture airborne pollutants before they can foul up essential systems. In this case, the system you're protecting is your respiratory system first and foremost.

The cabin filter is most commonly found behind the glove compartment, though it may also be located under your vehicle's front cowling on the passenger side. The pleated unit usually is made of either an engineered material or multifiber cotton. When outside air passes through the filter, any irritants or allergens are contained within the fibers. However, cabin filters don't last forever. They'll eventually degrade with age. It's much more common, though, for them to blocked up with those particulates. Either way, the filter's of little use if it's unable to contain pollutants.

Hoe to Spot a Faulty Cabin Filter

Signs of trouble include:

  • Weaker airflow coming from the vents
  • You notice that your cabin air smells musty or moldy
  • There's a distinct whistling sound coming out of your air vents
  • Your cabin temperature is inconsistent
